We are planning on hosting a Master Asai memorial event in Hollywood, California on August 15th, 2010.

We were going to discuss this at the first IJKA instructor meeting in Switzerland scheduled for May17th, however due to time constraints we need to finalize a venue now.

If there is a lot of interest, we will hold a competition. If not, we will hold a memorial camp with smaller number of people. As the venue requirements are different in these situations we would like to first have a clear idea of the number of participants.

If you would like to participate, please email us.

We will let you know the details and expenses, including accommodations, at a later date.

Details of the event will be finalized at the meeting in Switzerland.

Tetsuhiko Asai not only established the NPO Japan Karate Shoto Federation (JKS) in 2000, he had already established the International Japan Martial Arts Karatedokai (IJKA) about thirty years ago,
one that is not restricted to any particular styles of karate. IJKA incorporates techniques of all types of martial arts and Bujutsu to develop new Karate techniques and Kata,
and does not conform to any style of Karate. For that reason, IJKA has gained huge popularity overseas.
This website is dedicated to only Master Asai’s personal organization, Soke International Japan Martial Arts Karatedokai I.J.K.A.

The History of Succession and Re-establishment of IJKA

Message from Keiko Asai
On March 8th, 2010, I inherited the International Japan Martial Arts Karatedokai (IJKA) in a resolve to continue the vision of the late Tetsuhiko Asai who left this world only halfway to fulfilling his dream. Master Asai devoted all his time, mind and energy into karate: developing and researching unconventional karate, while going through strict training himself, and sharing the techniques with countless people who loved karate from around the world.
He used to mutter to himself that: "I know people practicing karate are all actually kinds people… " as if to say he wanted them to work more on training their Kokoro, their heart. He also used to say that: "the first principle from Gojo Kun (the Five Principles of Karatedo) says to perfect your character, but what should come before that is to develop your character." What he wanted to say was that while executing sharp techniques, we needed to soften our Kokoro. To me, that is all about 'love.' '
There are many forms of love, but I believe if we can add love to karate, there will be no rivalry outside of training, and the gentle heart we all have within will resurface and love for karate will blossom..
The technical side of IJKA will be lead by Chen Hontsung Sensei, who has been supporting Asai Karate for close to fifty years and has the deepest understanding of Asai Karate. He will be training with the former pupils of Master Asai.
About the training of the heart - I hope that each branch dojo head or country head will have enough fatherly or brotherly love to harness an environment where everyone can encourage and support each other, and advance karatedo. Then I am sure the flower of karate love will bloom in everyone's heart. This, I believe, is the achievement of Shingi Ittai, the union of mind and body, and the ideal karate..

With the slogan "Develop your character" IJKA is established on this objective and to wish happiness to the karate family around the world. We hope that the seeds of love and happiness will reach everyone. Master Asai often said that this would lead to world peace.

IJKA Is Not A Newly Formed Organization >
We, IJKA, are not a newly formed group but an organization established about 30 years ago by my late husband, Tetsuhiko Asai, based on his ideals. After he passed away, I went through the legal process to inherit the organization, and also to incorporate it.
NOT A NEWLY FORMED GROUP
IJKA based in Europe, including UK, is a different organization from our IJKA. The instructor of IJKA UK did learn Asai karate under Master Asai, but communication was lost in the last few years before Master Asai’s passing. Now that Master Asai is gone, it appears that he is positioning himself as the Shuseki Shihan of their IJKA, but we would like to clarify that IJKA UK is not affiliated with IJKA.

We do not think of expanding the organization, and aim to truly practice karate spirit and create a community where people who thrive to advance their karate skills gather and progress through friendly competition. We welcome anyone who can share our beliefs whole-heartedly into IJKA.
I am very happy to see that there are so many people practicing Asai karate. I wish for everyone’s training to go well and pray for good health.

I am very happy to see that there are so many people practicing Asai karate, despite the difference in the organizations they belong. I wish for everyone’s training to go well and pray for good health.
